Traffic Specialties

Traffic calming is a great example of a traffic specialty that regulates both vehicles and pedestrians by subtly encouraging drivers to slow down in congested areas. Often engineers will slightly reduce the size of driving lanes, add calming islands and improve pavement markings. These small changes work together to relieve congestion and make roads safer.

Turning lanes, merging lanes, decelerating lanes and specialty turn lanes…all are examples of small improvements that work together to improve the quality of life in a community.
