Natalie L. Haslam Music Center

Cannon & Cannon, Inc. provided survey, site, grading, drainage and utility engineering for the University of Tennessee Music’s new state-of-the-art 117,000 sf facility – The Natalie L. Haslam Music Center.

The new facility replaces an existing building that was built in 1965 on the same site. The building serves the Band, Orchestra, Choral and Music Administration Departments. The building was designed to meet the University of Tennessee Sustainability Guidelines to comply with a minimum LEED certification of silver.

The site posed several challenges to accommodate the proposed improvements. The stormwater quality and quantity requirements were met using underground detention and water quality structures in order to minimize above ground impact. Stormwater runoff was collected from the Music Center rooftop and reused for landscape irrigation. Cannon & Cannon made sure pedestrian and ADA pathways connecting the campus to multiple access points at different floor elevations were included.
